INSTRUMENT
SITAR:
Sitar is a long-necked lute, made entirely of wood except the resonators. At the lower end is the gourd which is the main sound box. From these projects a neck extending into a long fingerboard which may often bear a small hollowed pumpkin at the upper end, acting as a second resonator. On the fretboard curved frets of metals are tied to suit the scale of the raga being played and they can be moved when necessary.
This course is a continuation of the topic of theory and presentation of Indian Classical Music and its various other forms. Students will explore topics in depth such as advanced compositions, techniques (gammaks, murkis, meend), ear training and complex rhythms. Each student will present a final recital, which will demonstrate the traditional approach to Indian Music.

TABLA:
Tabla is a membranous instrument mostly played in the Northern part of Inida. The word is a collective one and is used to indicate the pair – the dayaan and the the bayan. The dayan is used to create treble sounds whereas the bayan is used to create the bass sound. The table uses fingers and palms to create a wide range of rhythms and sounds known as bols.

FLUTE:
Indian Flute or Bansuri is a very an instrument in which all the different shades of classical music can be performed to perfection upon it. It is a very portable single jointed instrument.
This course provides an introduction to both the theory and presentation of Indian Classical Music in vocal form. An overview of flute compositions, general improvising concepts, breathing techniques, and historical information is given. Each student will present a final Concert which demonstrate the traditional approach to Indian Music.

VIOLIN:
Indian Violin is similar to the Western Violin except the style of playing. In Indian the violin is played sitting cross legged and is pointed to the ground.
