North - Indian or Hindustani Music

Hindustani Classical Music is an Indian classical music tradition from the Northern part of India. This music was not only influenced by Vedic and ancient music traditions but also Persian elements. This system is based on Raga and Ragini system and are time centric. The major forms of vocal rendered in this music are dhrupad, khyal, ghazal, thumri, tarana and many others.

South - Indian or Carnatic Music

Carnatic Music is an Indian classical music tradition from the Southern part of India. The system is based on Melakartha system of Ragas. The repertoire consists of kriti or kiratana, complex devotional songs by composers so called Trinity of the early 19th century : Tyagaraja, Muthuswami Dikhsitar and Shyama Sastri.
